From two carpenters to building a manufacturing legacy.

From an early age, Caesar Fernandes carried a strong conviction to build something meaningful. Choosing experience over convention, he stepped away from formal education to pursue entrepreneurship, guided closely by his father, whose mentorship laid the foundation for his journey. The journey began modestly—with two carpenters and an underutilized unit called Camilsons Industries.

Starting with doors and windows, Caesar discovered an instinctive interest in design, space and functionality. This evolved into interior design and eventually led to the establishment of Living in Style, a furniture showroom in Colva, alongside the execution of bespoke interiors for homes and villas. But the defining characteristic of his entrepreneurial journey was the willingness to continually explore what could be done differently.

Seeing an opportunity others hadn’t seen.

As Goa’s tourism industry grew, Caesar observed the rapid emergence of bamboo and chatai huts along destinations such as Palolem and Agonda. Many served a growing tourism market, but he saw an opportunity to improve the product itself—through better aesthetics, attached bathrooms, safety, durability, comfort and professional finishing.

The question that stayed with him was simple: How could Goa offer travellers an extraordinary destination experience if the accommodation itself did not offer the comfort and quality they increasingly expected?

That question eventually became an opportunity. Caesar began exploring prefabricated wooden structures as an alternative. His search took him internationally, including to China, where he studied products, manufacturing systems and prefabrication techniques firsthand.

Initially, prefabricated structures were imported into Goa. However, the limitations and challenges of depending on imports ultimately became the catalyst for something much bigger. Instead of continuing to import, Caesar decided to manufacture. That decision gave birth to Wooden Homes India.

Building the market, not just entering it.

Introducing a new concept was not easy. It took approximately 18 months to sell the first seven units, at a time when convincing clients to move from inexpensive bamboo and chatai structures to professionally manufactured wooden cottages required education, trust and persistence. Rather than relying purely on conventional selling, Caesar focused on relationships. Early customers experienced the product, saw its value and began referring others. Clients gradually became advocates for the brand. This philosophy continues to influence Wooden Homes India today:

From Wooden Homes to a wider purpose

Over the years, Caesar’s entrepreneurial interests expanded beyond wooden construction into hospitality, environmental services, manufacturing, international trade and infrastructure-related businesses under the broader Camilsons Group. His passion for nature also led to the establishment of Kafmar Environmental Services Private Limited, focused on environmental solutions including waterbody restoration and ecological improvement.

In hospitality, the philosophy behind Wooden Homes India was brought to life through The Ark Comforts, demonstrating how wooden construction, thoughtful design, warmth and guest experience can come together within an operating hospitality property.

Today, Caesar leads a growing organization of 150+ people, while continuing to build manufacturing capability, develop new products, explore export markets and expand into new geographies. Yet the ambition goes beyond scale. It is about building with purpose, creating opportunities, helping clients succeed, impacting lives and carrying forward a legacy of values.
